hey dudes! strandberg pickup talk
« on: October 06, 2016, 12:05:42 AM »
hey everyone. hope you're well. been a while since i've hung out here. looking for some ideas. over the past couple months i've grown very attached to my strandberg boden. i swapped out the seymour duncan JB jazz combo for some Juggernauts. definitely my favorite BK pickup. i have nothing at all to complain about out. really suits the chambered swamp ash/ flame maple top combo nicely (maple neck and board). i love the guitar so much that i decided to buy another. should have it soon and i know i will want to change out the pickups. i want something that will do the modern stuff but is maybe a little smoother than the juggs. i was initially thinking the crawlers. i've used the bridge pickup before and loved it in a swamp ash/maple necked strat. i think it would work out really nicely and compliment my juggernauts. but i'm willing to consider other pickups for the job as well if you guys had any suggestions for ones i may not have tried yet? i'm also considering the HSP90s as well. been wanting to try the MQs forever but i'm not sure this is the right guitar.

thanks!

so i asked BK and tim suggested the abraxas. thats one pickup set i was curious about but have never used. can anyone compare them to the crawlers sonically? or just tell me their impressions of it at all?

Abraxas is definitely brighter than Crawler on both pickups, and a bit lower in output and compression.

Cheers Stephan

my thoughts exactly. i think it may be too bright for my guitar. its already very bright and snappy acoustically. i still think the crawler is the way to go.

what would you guys do for pickup covers/bobbins?

i'm thinking black covers with silver screws.

Donno, thats so personal......but with the purple and light fretboard you'd get away with double cream or zebra coils, or if covered even gold. Covered black looks great though, have a set in a black guitar

I would stick to black with silver screws. The guitar has enough sexappeal, the pickupcovers don't have to scream for attention.

The Crawler will do for sure, maybe the A-Pig if you want a more modern tone.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

definitely gonna pass on the warpig. a little too much power for me right now. the juggernaut in my other strandberg is about as heavy as i need.
