Lynch Modules

SUPER V
A clean module with Vox like tone characteristics. Nice chime on the high's with warm low bottom end. Sounds very acoustic like due to reduced mid-range.

BRAHMA
A mouth watering classic hi-gain tone that represents George's signature rhythm sound. This preamp has the classic British voicing with signature American tone modifications. It's a Lynch's variation of the vintage Plexi tone.

MR. SCARY
What we've all been waiting for! It's the patented Lynch heavy rhythm and lead tone of Dokken and Lynch Mob era. It has similar voicing to that of the Brahma with addition gain and punch. The standard 80's high gain tone with tight low end and impressive gain.

GRAIL
A modern Lynch lead and rhythm tone. A true Rectifier feel with thicker lower mid-range than the "Mr. Scary" preamp, A modern lead tone from the Lynch Mob to current era

FYI, Lynch used Randall heads for the Tooth And Nail album, considered by many to be their favourite Lynch tone. Multiple Randall heads were used, in true 80s fashion, with something like 8 cabs and 13 mics!!!

Looks like it. Pobably a different price tag too. I still haven't tried those MTS amps yet but the technology looks very promissing.

I'm going to check out the RM100 tomorrow (have an appointment with the EUR/continental importer). Actually I read that Stevie Stevens is also using one live (http://www.musicianshotline.com/issue/features/200607_artist_stevens2.asp).

It's going to be either the RM100 (or the Lynch one as it looks cooler), a Bogner Shiva or a Bogner XTC.

Have already tested Soldano SLO100, Diezel VH4,  CAE100, DSL100 and the two Bogners. Now the Randall tomorrow and the two Bogners again on Wednesday. I'll know on Wednesday who's the winner.

The Bias stuff, the modules, the 2 loops are all very nice features for the Randall. If only it had an internal boost to kick the modules (but then, if they do OK with pedals, it's fine too).

The Plexi clips sound awesome, so do the Blackface ones ...

If you're into the MTS concept you might want to check Roger Egnater's (the original designer iirc) variant. Better quality components (apparently) and dual channel modules <= at a price.

Indeed. It seems that the Egnater range is a little more "rock" sounding, whereas the Randall stuff is more orientated at the heavy guys (very direct/fast).

Well, I'll test RM100 today, Bogners tomorrow, maybe I should do Egnater after that? I wanna make up my mind soon as this quest for tone really takes up a lot of time ...

Ooer Hunter, any news on the randall mts review? been having a look around and it seems like a great piece of kit, specially seeing as you can pick up the rm100m head unit for around £500-600 on ebay from america and the modules for $200

Allright, played it today and although it's versatile and good sound overall,

Plexi module was very nice. Especially as it worked well with the EL34s and the overall design of the amp. I also liked the SL+, which was like a hot JCM800 style. The Blackface didn't convince me as the treble was harsh, and the Recto didn't give me a real recto feeling (too muddy), the XTC was not even close to the real XTC.

I have to say, as I recently tested all kinds of high end gear, this was close but no cigar. I think I basically have two different experiences when trying new amps:
-Excitement at whatever position I dial the knobs and heavy GAS attacks with hectic investment plans and bank account estimations in the back of my mind while I can't stop opening my mouth and closing my eyes while playing (that's what I had with both the Bogner Shiva and XTC Classic)
-The feeling that I fight with the amp and I go back and forth between amp and guitar trying to dial in a good tone

I had the latter today. This doesn't mean that the amp is bad in a band and rock context, as it will surely cut through well and provide lots of punch, but for me this amp didn't do it today.

I tried it both  with 6L6s and EL34s, the 6L6 was overly bassy (even when turning down the resonance poti 100%), the EL34 was nicer, smoother.

If you look for a bargain alternative to have a very versatile, powerful amp, this is definitely a good alternative.

I'll have another go at Bogner tomorrow and if I find the energy to drive another 200KM after that I can try an Egnater MOD100 (which is like the highend version of the RM100 but handbuilt in US with higher spec components and modules that have 2 channels each).

Let's see if I have a new amp tomorrow night or the quest goes on.

Might soon be selling my UniValve and Screamer tops ...

I loved the looks on the first version of the lynch box (I'dwish I could make my jcm look like that... but the new look (with the skull) is ugly.

Are these new Randalls all that. I mean preamp is tubes, power stage is also pure tube? How do the modules work? Is this like a gimmick or do they sound the real deal? I wonder is G. Lynch going to use these?

Everything is tube. The preamp modules, preamp chassis (tubes for the buffered effects loops) and power amps. The modules work by slipping them into the preamp chasis and quickly tightening two screws, one on each side. Then you turn on and play. It's really simple.

Do they sound like the real deal? No, but close. If you like the rectifier sound, you will probably like the Rectified module. If you like the plexi sound, you will definitely like the Plexi module(really close!).

G. Lynch does use the modules, but he uses custom modules (that you can buy for not much more than standard ones) voiced to what he wants. The disturbed guitarist also uses one of them (the 1086).
