Bridge pickup for Ibanez RG8?
« on: November 25, 2016, 09:29:02 PM »
Hey everyone,

i'm going to be purchasing an RG8 for Christmas, and I have about £130 or so left over to purchase a better bridge pickup.

I'm going for 'djent' tones, such as Periphery and Animals as Leaders, but I also want articulate clean tones in the bridge, such as Animas as Leaders cleans or The Contortionist. I'd also like the leads to work well.

Any suggestions?

I also need to do clean and dirty percussive stuff in the style of Animals as Leaders (intro of Infinite Regression and the slapping part in Physical Education are good indicators). Thanks!

Very precise question, don't know about the percusive thing, but the Juggs I have could do all that periphery thing great, so that's my recommendation. My guitar is a 7 and Swamp ash not basswood as yours, so I don't know if my advice is valid here.

Late to the party here, but Misha's Jackon sigs are basswood so I'd think the Juggernaut would give you Periphery tone, depending on your amp. AAL's pickups are quite differently toned, I'd say, at least the Ionizer and Javier's set that I can't recall the name of all of a sudden... Maybe Juggs or an Aftermath set wired to single coil/out of phase in the middle position?

Tosin has been using SD Pegasus for quite some time now, so I vote Juggs.
Black Dog (b), Abraxas (b), The Mule (n), Mississippi Queen (n), Trilogy Suite (m)

Had: Riff Raff 7 (b), Painkiller 8 (b)

I might be baised as i've just installed a set, but the Impulse is a pickup you should look at. It has a great even response over all frequencies and has amazing clarity when used with a down tuned guitar. The note separation is fantastic, and should work really well with the styles you're into.

if they are already available for 8 stringers, I'd pick impulses as well
didn't try them yet, but that's exactly what I'd use them for if I could play that sort of stuff (I love The Contortionst)
