Alnico Nailbomb set, or...
« on: November 26, 2016, 10:51:16 PM »
Just bought an old PRS Custom 22 and I need to change pickups.
I love the Alnico Warpigs in my Gibson SG's, but I figure I need something a little lighter in the bass for this guitar.
So I'm thinking A-Bomb set, (but I also considered Holy Diver in the bridge).
Do I stick with the NB neck, or try a Cold Sweat or VHII neck? I've heard good things about them in a PRS. I have the old 5-way rotary to wire up.
I use 11's and mainly tune to D, and Drop-C. My style is like Sabbath, COC, Clutch, The Sword, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, and Helmet.
What do you guys think? Thanks.

I am wondering if a Miracle Man might be a better option here, but I'll wait to see what those with experience with PRS guitars say.

I seem to remember reading some negative comments regarding Nailbombs in PRS

I've seen posts here and elsewhere saying the A-Bomb bridge sounds great in PRS guitars (and HD bridge as well).
Also Ben from BKP wrote back to me suggesting the NB set.
I'll prob just do the NB neck to keep it matched.

Custom 22 is a mahogany set neck with a mahogany body and maple cap and rosewood board?

A-Bomb bridge and Rebel Yell neck is a great combination for a bit hotter bridge and a really nice neck for lead playing.

I have a guitar with a Rebel Yell bridge and a VHII neck.  It's a KILLER set of pickups but the guitar is a mahogany bolt on neck with a rosewood board and a heavy as HELL solid mahogany body.

I think I'd consider the ceramic nailbomb instead
I actually felt it more compressed but less aggressive than the alnico version in the same guitar
not a fan of the neck nailbomb, though, so I'd probably pick the neck VHII
Riff Raff, Mules, Black Dog, VHII's, Cold Sweat

I quite like the neck Nailbomb, but I prefer a brighter neck pickup
