New pickups day - Impulse set
« on: December 15, 2016, 09:24:29 PM »
So I finally got around to installing my Impulse set yesterday. Man alive, these things are incredible. Installed a push-push pot at the tone for coil splitting a 550 on the volume and a big asses BKP capacitor.

First impressions. The whole guitar sounds more alive. I'd a SD Nazgul/sentient set before and they were very spikey in the highs and almost flubby in the lowend with a scooped midrange. The Impulse bridge is very even over all the frequencies and you find that the true sound of the guitar comes through more as there isn't all frequencies fighting for attention. It's very tight, very very tight. I tune no lower than drop C and it's a really focused sound. Tight. Chunky. Massive. Unlike any other pickup I've used.

The neck pickup is very fluid, granted I'm no soloist but it's very even, very warm and not harsh in any way. I got some great blues tones from the neck even without coil splitting. Coil tapped both pickups delivered some very unique tones. Again very even and balanced.

I threw everything my Kemper has at them and they out performed the Duncan's and even the Fishman Fluence pickups I have in my ESP Eclipse.

Very impressed.

Hmmm....I did the whole "500K Push-Push Tone Pot" and "550K Volume pot" thing with my ESP Ltd Elite Horizon III, and it did naught be completely ruin my tone.  I have had a Guitarmory Tsarbomba, an Avedissian Railsplitter, and now a Miracle Man in there, all in the span of a year, and I am almost convinced that my guitar is cursed.  Essentially, every pickup I have had in bridge position has sounded thin, lacking in any "oomph", and almost "single-coil"-like.  I have since gone back to two BKP550k pots for both the tone and volume, and the problems still persist, only less-so.  I am going back to a 500k volume and a 500k push-push pot once my Impulse arrives in an effort to see if I can tame the issue once more.

Regards,
