New at the forums, need a pickups recommendation
« on: December 20, 2016, 09:07:02 PM »
Hello.
First of all, thanks for your help, I'm new at the forums and to Bare Knuckle Pickups, I'll buy my first set soon-ish with your help!
Anyways, I have an Ibanez Premium RG with a Basswood body, Maple neck and HSH pickups (Yeah, the one everyone plays).
Thing is, I'd like to put pickups in it that will allow me to cover the most ground possible with that single guitar; sounds kind of silly but I love the way it feels, I got used to it and it has sentimental value to me.
I'd like to say, get a jazz tone that isn't insulting (something that sounds decent, just started studying jazz and I'd like it to sound at least decent if not good), funk, blues and metal.
I can wire coil splits for both humbuckers together with a 5 way standard switch.
I know I'm asking maybe for too much, but I'm confindent this can be achievable with Bare Knuckle pickups and playing a bit with the wiring.
Thanks for your help again.

I read jazz and Im thinking humbucker sized P90, at least one in the neck

Hows about HB sized p90 blue note, Veneer 63 middle and something else for the bridge?

You're asking one set of pickups to cover an awful lot of ground but if it was me, I'd put an Abraxas in the bridge, a Mississippi Queen in the neck and an Irish Tour in the middle. The Abraxas is a hotter PAF so it will retain a lot of vintage character while also being able to go into Metal. It's arguably the most versatile humbucker in the range and I can imagine it sitting well in a basswood guitar for a range of styles. The MQ in the neck is also a very versatile option and produces a godly tone in the neck of a guitar while the Irish Tour is hot enough to live with the other pups while still sounding like a proper singlecoil pickup.

Bridge - Emerald; Cold Sweat; Crawler; A-Bomb; Holydiver; Miracle Man; Sinner; Trilogy Suite

Neck - Emerald; Cold Sweat; Crawler; Holydiver; Sinner; Trilogy Suite

That seems to sum up what I've been looking for, didn't really think of a p-90 (on an RG!!) until now.
Thanks a lot guys.

Slarti always comes up with good suggestions. Let me add one too: if you want to cover metal too, the Abraxas can do a lot, but maybe a Holy Diver or a Rebel Yell could be more at it's place. For the neck a Mule or (P90) a Manhattan would be great for jazz.

Just my 2 cents  :cheesy:
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

Hello,

My advice may sound a little weird but... Did you think about a juggernaut set ?
I find the jugg neck really warm, and if you roll the tone knob off a bit, it can be pretty decent in the jazz territory (well... at least in my point of view, and for modern style). however, it may be a bit dry, but a good reverb and/or delay and that rocks.

Yeah, I know... It's weird... but a juggernaut set can do so much more than djent... xD
