P.S. = The Body Rot is not very versatile.  It was made for heavy chugging.  That is about it.

The kind of metal i'm into ranges from Metallica to Slayer, Opeth, Pantera, etc. Not so much 80's stuff (apart from Iron Maiden and Anthrax). Any advice?

Cheers

Digitech have just released a wah modeler with distortion, wammy pedal and few other goodies. Looks pretty cool.

Well, basically not purely 80's stuff. Slightly more modern stuff and thrash. I want a beefy metal sound.

The Boss MT-2 and the Body Rot could do the bands you mentioned but you would be stuck in that genre.  For me, I basically went through many single pedals and for my taste, I have the body rot for the heavy chugga chugga sound and the Big D for everything else.  My amp is a fender hot rod deluxe so I need a pedal to get any kind of usable distortion.

As for a wah pedal..I need to get some money together myself and buy the Wizard Wah.  The guy is pretty backed up with requests, so if you do decide to get this one, you'll have a wait.  But it is worth it.  It is a great wah.  Excellent for high gain.

The main question you have to ask yourself is, what are you looking to do?  If your looking to just have fun and maybe jam a couple times with friends a multi-effects pedal might fit your needs better.  They are great for playing in the house and jamming with friends.  If you looking to get serious and perfect a sound to call your own then you'll have a mission ahead of you trying out single pedals...lol..

b0ng0, your a man after my own heart! We have similar tastes. I first went for a digitech Death metal pedal. You can get them dirt cheap and have such a damn tasty crunch to em. I recently ditched mine though. Its not versatile in the slightest (no gain knob!), and my lead guitar just sounded messy when playing with friends. Its great for the price, and served me nicely to practice for a good year or so, but ive taken a shine to a much cleaner sound.
HOWEVER
I just bought a Line 6 Uber Metal, and it is SWEET. got it for £70 including P&P from guitarampkeyboard. Its really versatile and you can get all sorts of great sounds from it, and it can pretty much mimic my death metal pedal anyway. Its also got a noise gate, which is handy at high gain and such, and good for chunky powerchord grinding. Takes some fiddling to get the right sound from it, but im not overly experienced with these things and i had a great sound after 10 or so mins of playing around.

P.S. GAK's service isnt so great, the postage was poor, my pedal, along with another came loose in a sack and both had damaged packaging. I told them how pissed off i was but didnt get an apology. Just an offer for me to send it back and that they would compensate me with "goodies" for the postage back    Plenty of sites do the Uber Metal at a good price though, its just a case of looking around.

Hope i helped
Petre

[EDIT] cr@p i forgot to mention. As for a wah pedal im going to get an ibanez weeping demon when i get paid. Apparently its really versatile so im just gonna go for it. Just going on online reviews here, apparently its good. Ill have to get back to you on that one!

fwiw, I had (and gigged) a Teese RMC3 wah for around 4 years but sold it when I got Stuart Castledine's wah - it has more of that 'croak' I hear in Hendrix's wah tone and that sold it for my money.  I sold the RMC3 btw.

I'm a pure-amp-distortion kinda guy, but one pedal made quite an impression when I was looking for my sound. Visual Sound Jekyll & Hyde, very versatile and great sounding piece of gear.
