Maybe we're all just in touch with our inner feline spirit.
Or a pride of pussies. ;)
Anyhoo, I digress...
The SD's that are in there are a '59 neck & JB bridge. I just find them a bit too "clinical" if you know what I mean.
Feline's right, the original spec for the IC50 was a V2 bridge & a Super70 neck (both uncovered black coils though). I've got a '78 IC200 (set neck) that I've put back to stock, with a set of Super80's (about 7.5k) that's nice, but I also don't like them too hot (say over 12k), the V5's that were in it when I bought it were a bit warm (16.5k ceramic), but I like the lower powered Alnico's (warmer sound IMO), so currently I'm leaning toward some Emerald's.
I'm a pedal & "nearly breaking up" amp fan, the main pedals are a Vintage Rat and a TK999US through Ch2 of an Ampeg VL-503. And yes, it's going to be used for a heavier style. ;) With my current set up, I reckon it does allow some of the woody warmth of the guitar through, as well as the biting O/D, but that's IMO o'course.
When I bought the guitar, it was hand finished (literally, brush strokes & everything!) in a see through red. I flatted it off, and then refinished it in Halfords finest gloss black (about 7 500ml cans, roughly 14 coats, flatted between each coat) followed by about 6 coats (3 500ml cans) of clear lacquer. It's actually turned out really well IMO, much better than when I bought it anyway!
Ratrod, don't forget that Steve Miller AND Tom Petty used to use different Iceman models as well as all those other bands you mentioned. My inspiration to own an IC50? A mid 80's thrash band called Celtic Frost.
Thanks for the help guys!
