Pickup Replacement for Fender Tele N3's
« on: January 24, 2017, 06:54:21 PM »
I have a Fender Tele Deluxe which has S1 switching and Fender N3 noiseless pickups.

The pickups are very smooth, quiet and clear but lack edgy character that would normally come from a classic tele sound.

Any ideas on what to replace them with?

I'd like to make use of the S1 switch so that the 2 pickups would need to sound good in series as well as parallel and individually.

Thanks guys.

What kind of music you play?

My guess for now:

A good broadcaster-sound comes for the Blackguard 52-set (neck sounds a bit like a strat-singlecoil).
If you want more snap look at the Country Boy-set. Don't be afraid, they handle gain very well.

For this guitar I'd like a Rolling Stones (Keef) / Status Quo (Rick Parfitt) tone..!

Piledriver?

The Piledriver is quite modern voiced and can handle even metal. For Stones/Quo I would look at the Brown Sugar.

Yes I am not sure why the Piledriver is listed as Vintage Hot.

Any of the others in the Vintage Hot Telecaster range might do the trick, depending on your exact tastes and characteristics of the guitar, but the Piledriver would be too modern.

Its based on a genuine vintage wind I understand.

Well it's definitely not as hot or modern as the Seymour Duncan Quarter Pound for Tele, but more so than the others in the Vintage Hot range.  I tend to think of it as something like a Telecaster equivalent of a Cold Sweat or Holy Diver.

I'm guessing there's no twang with a piledriver?

What wire/magnet combination would kick out what I want?

That Stones/Quo/Police sound? Twang, Articulation but with some kick?

Over the Flat 50?

The Flat 50 seems to have a lot of ooomph, maybe at the price of some twang???

Yeah, it's a little darker than the 52.
