'63 Veneer vs Mother's Milk

Hello!

I'm looking for new pickups to my '88 ESP 400 series strat, adler body, maple neck with rosewood fretboard. Original pickups are muddy and too soft sounding for my taste. I play Hendrix, blues, funk, country, 70's rock and some jazz too. I'd like my strat to sound bright but not harsh, percussive, spanky and snappy, glassy and woody. I was first thinking Mother's Milks, but right now I have chance get '63 set for pretty good price. What are differences between these two if we are talking about sound? Do Mother's Milks feel more compressed when played?

Both are not compressed and very close in sound. If you can buy the Veneer Boards, go for it. Fiddle with the height for the sweet spot. BKP's are really sensitive in that respect.

I found the 63s to be much more organic sounding and elastic to the touch FWIW.  Could have been my particular guitar.

That could be true. They are fantastic anyway. Yet, I listened clips of the MM's and the Pat Pend Series. Blindfolded its hard to tell which is what.

I had a hard time telling the difference as well.
I ended up ordering the 63s
I thought I heard a little more life, but the difference in the clips to me is subtle at best

The big surprise to me was how much staggered vs flat makes. I went with staggered.

Cant wait for my 63s to get here!!

I have the '63 Veneers and I think they are spot on for what you described you wanted.........I love mine.......they grow on you over time.....

It was a fender blues deluxe into a shure ksm32.
Blues Deluxe has a celetion creamback 65.
Clean channel, no pedals, close mic ed at low volume.
