PAT Pend Strat® Series - '63 Veneer Board - initial thoughts
« on: February 13, 2017, 08:12:28 AM »
This weekend I received my 2 PAT Pend Strat® Series - '63 Veneer Board pickups (neck and middle).

My 2013 Fender Am Std strat was lacking in a few ways. It resonates just fine and acoustically it sounds good, but amplified it doesnt have any life to it.
So decided to do some upgrades. A while back I decided to convert it to a HSS strat since I never liked the sound of a SC in the bridge.
And since I have a Zebra Black Dog lying around, I just stuck it in the strat, and even though it's not the best match for the guitar, it works just fine.
But the Fat50s that came in the Strat never did it for me, they are somewhat fat, but this is mainly fat mids that tend to get a little muddy.

I decided to go for the 63s based on the sound clips and the fact that these come up a lot when people talk about John Mayer's tone on this forum.

The 63s so far have not disappointed. I must add that I haven't had the opportunity to open up my amp (budda superdrive in this case) without a powersoak, but these things are Schweet!!!
Compared to the Fender Fat50s the 63s have sooooo much more low end en sweetness.
The muddyness is gone and there is this strat tone that I can only define as "everytime-your-play-a-note-you-only-wanna-hit-the-next-one-even-harder"-hollow ploinky-sweetness..........................

This Saturday I can really give m a testrun on high volume with a number of different amps. I'll let you guys know I there is anything to add.

Cheers!!
