Plastic filler?
« on: April 06, 2006, 01:26:08 AM »
When redoing my strat, I'm gonna want a new pickguard but I cant find one thats like I want.. I want HSS in black, but with just 2 knobs, where the lower strat ones are, without the volume knob if you know what i mean, basically one volume and one tone, where the two tones are! I dont seem to be able to find one like this allready, so I was thinking of getting a standard pickguard, then finding some kinda filler for the third hole so it doesnt look so bad. Any ideas?

Cheers

muahahaha so yu did decide indy was right and H/S/S is the way to go? what set you gonna go for?
I'm really not sure of a way to fill it. Maybe measure the hole and cut out a circle, glueing it in. Another option would be just to leave it you vain vain barsteward. Also - have you decided what wood your strat is yet? if not post some pics would ya matey for the clever people to decide. i guess its just alder. thats wishful thinking though. could be basswood or agathis...

In fact you could probably use that filler stuff yu have in bathrooms - thats kinda plasticcy right? and yu could smooth it over the hole pretty good too...
LOVING the Mules!

What about making a custom one, Allparts do blanks, there's plenty of others, just google for pickguard blanks.

Did you look at www.pickguards.com? They have almost every scratch plate you can imagine!
If not, you can call them and they can make one for you.

The other thing to remember is most custom scratch plates come with a layer of foil on the underside, and all the holes are covered. If you don't pierce the foil, it's virtually impossible to see the hole in a dark scratch plate.

Yeah I thought that was an american site though, actually found a better one at www.auroraproject.co.uk where I can get a complete custom one probably, for not too much cash as its not a complex design or whatever. Indy, I dont even know if I'm gonna get BK's yet, I'm not sure if I'll use the guitar enough to justify the price.. I'd love a set but not sure if its worth it to be honest.

Yeah I thought of a custom one aswell but dont know how I'd cut it well enough... plus I'd probably leave loads of scratches in it from sanding etc...

Tom, WD Music Products (www.wdmusicproducts.co.uk) can do specials, for example I needed a Tele 72 Custom guard but routed for standard Humbuckers instead of the squarer Fender ones. No problem! Give them a ring and tell them what you want.
Just 'cos you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get you
