Which BKPs are similar to 500T/496R?
« on: March 01, 2017, 04:35:06 PM »
Hi guys!

My Gibson Les Paul R8 has a pair of burstbucker but I am thinking to replace them. I need a pair with more output, more harmonics etc..

I had a combo 500T/496R on my old les paul classic and I was very happy...

There are some BKP similar to 500T/496R? Cold Sweat, Nailbomb, Miracle Man?

Thank you!!!

I can't answer your question since I have no experience with them. But, if you really liked them, why not get those instead of spending plenty more to try and find something that may sound similar?

Haha, you want to trick out an R8?  BKP are awesome but they are different from Gibson pickups.

You would probably  like a ceramic nailbomb bridge and cold sweat neck, or a nailbomb set with the ceramic bridge.  The R8s are more balanced sounding and less muddy than Swiss cheese production  standards, right?

I played my production standard with 500k pots and an a bomb bridge and rebel yell neck up against a custom shop with burstbuckers.  Totally different beast.  BKP are tighter, clearer, and a lot more muscular.

Yes, you're right! But I would like to test the BKP in the R8. I had a pair of Mules and the clarity of those pickups was amazing.

Mule neck and riff raff bridge?  Mule neck and Abraxas Bridge?

The contemporary selections will be closer to those Gibson pickups you like.

I've tried both a 500T and a C-Bomb in my PRS Singlecut
I like the C-Bomb a lot better, way bigger dynamic range, and a lot less shrill and compressed
They are comparable in ways of aggression

the painkiller set I would say

I would have guessed the C-Bomb would be closest or the A-Bomb if you like it particularly hairy.
BKP owned:

Bridge - Emerald; Cold Sweat; Crawler; A-Bomb; Holydiver; Miracle Man; Sinner; Trilogy Suite

Neck - Emerald; Cold Sweat; Crawler; Holydiver; Sinner; Trilogy Suite

the painkiller has more of the 500t high end sizzle, but c-bomb sounds a bit closer, a little smoother and more organic

not sure I'd sure there's anythng similar to the 496r, but it should be between the neck nailbomb and the neck painkiller
