Blackhawk conflicts with Carvin DC727
« on: March 07, 2017, 11:43:31 AM »
Hi guys.
My guitar is: Carvin DC727 maple top, ash body, koa neck (with 2 maple pieces), flamed maple fretboard.
I bought it with installed BKPs Blackhawks and need to say it has TOO MUCH bass, not bright enough midrange. Separate notes sounds good enough, but power chords are awful.
I also have another Carvin (all mahogony, koa top, burled maple fretboard) with Aftermath and it sounds FANTASTIC. Amazing clarity.

I think that problem is that Blackhawks are not my guitar's pickups?

It might very well be that you have the wrong pickups, however there is a thing you can try out before you decide to ditch the Blackhawks and that is adjusting pickup height. Try to back them away a bit to lose some boominess, if they are too close to the strings the bass can become a bit too much. If you feel like this takes away some of the power of the high strings as well try to back up the distance on the bass side but keep the treble side closer.

BKPs tend to be very sensitive to height adjustment, even more so than other pickups so that is probably your best bet.

Cheers
