I've been messing around with my strat a lot lately.
First I converted it into a SSH strat with the standard CS Fat50s in the neck and middle and a Black Dog in the bridge.
The black dog worked OK, not the best match for that guitar, but still a nice pickup.
The neck and middle didnt do it for me, so I changed those to the 63 PATs. Very nice pickups.
Then I changed my mind again, and wanted a SSS strat again.
So I went looking for single coil pickups I had lying around. And I found 2 SSL6s from Seymour Duncan. 1 regular, the other was RWRP.
I did a quick check of the polarity of the magnets (just hold the tops of the pickups close to each other, if they attract, the magnet is the opposit polatiry, if they repel, the magnets are the same polarity).
Turns out the RWRP one matches my 63s.
So I put that one in, nice pickup. Later found out that Gilmour might have used them. It's even humcancelling when combined with the middle 63.
In itself it is a nice pickup, I like that it has more output and is a little fatter than a standard single coil. But when compared to the other 2 BKP pickups, the Seymour Duncan falls a little short.
It lacks life, sparkle, dynamics and tonal Umami. (you know? that feeling if you play a note, you just want to keep playing)
So what BKPs fall into the same range as the SSL6 does?
I was looking into either the Trilogy (around the same DC as the SSL6) or the Irish Tour.
The IT, in the clips at least, sound a little like a fatter version of the 63s
Any thoughts?
So, long story short, what
