Middle coil for VHII set?
« on: March 17, 2017, 11:54:37 AM »
What's the best match for VHII set in a HSH guitar? I'm very much in love with the VHIIs but I'd like a crack at the split sounds too.

Edit: (guitar is a maple/maple FR Strat).

Irish Tour is a good standalone pickup and will blend nice.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

Hey,

I would recommend two for the middle coil, I don't know what you exactly looking for,

But, I like low output pickups, drives the amp differently. Dimarzio's Area 67, output is around 5,6 or something, its got very strong high freqs.
Another thing, if you like the quack sound on the 2,4 position, Id go with the duncan stacks.
About the BKP, one of my favorites ,considering BKP single coils, is Slow hands.
But I thing the Sultans coils are the ones with the quack sound.

All vintage BKP's have that quack in second and fourth position, just with a different flavour. The Slowhand is quite middy, so not the best of the range if quack is important. Soundwise the IT would fit.

First of, I said Slow Hands my favorite BKP single coils,

I was refering to "THE SULTAN'S" about the quack sound.

But thanks, I didn't know Irish Tour has that wide quack sound to it.

Yeah, I should have read more carefully. I have a VHII in a strat with Mother's Milks. The splits are not on par with the Crawler-IT splits in my other strat. I think that's due to the VHII-coil.
If you're after a glassy splitted tone, the Sultans might not be a bad idea. Maybe the Pat Pend 63 is an alternative too. They have a little less mids and bass than the IT.

How brigh/bassy is your guitar? Maple/maple migth be too bright for a Sultan or Pat Pend. The IT would be a safer bet.
