Just by what you have said regarding the characteristics of the guitar I am wondering if a VHII might work.

Have to admit that I had not really considered that one at all. The only pickups from the vintage hot category that I've looked into are the Emerald and Abraxas. Right off the bat, I wonder if the VHII is hot enough for the styles I am wanting to use this guitar for. I will look into them. Still leaning heavily towards the a-bombs though.

I think I'm going with the Rebel Yell set and a MQ neck in the middle. I'm planning to install 3 push-push pots as well, 2 will split the HBs and the other one will be an on/off for the MQ. I think it will make for an incredibly versatile guitar that will cover all the territory my CR0 with Mules doesn't quite get to (shred/prog/metal).
