OK, I've had time to play in my SG now it's been fitted with a set of Nailbombs. I'd delayed commenting until I'd had a chance to give them a good workout at rehearsal/gig levels as well as bedroom levels.
All I can say is, WOW. Compared to the original pickups in the SG the sheer clarity of the Nailbombs is amazing. There's plenty of oomph to drive the amp, but things don't get muddy at the lower frequencies, or fizzy at the high end. Even at lower tunings, that clarity at the bottom end is there in spades, and it makes it a joy to play. We were doing some stuff in C#AbDbGbBbEb last night at rehearsal, and the bottom end was tight as you like whereas the original pickups would have just turned to mush.
I'm finally really happy with my guitar sound for the first time, after many years of "It'll do for now". :D
Full setup: Gibson SG w/Nailbombs, Marshall JMP1 Preamp, Marshall 9100 50W/50W Stereo Valve Power Amp, Marshall 1960A 4x12 w/Celestion V30s
I'd like to say thanks to Tim and the guys for making these beauties, and thanks to Jonathan at Feline for installing them (and doing a lovely refret too).
I'm really excited to have a go on my Charvel Model 4 when I get it back from Feline next week, renewed with a Miracle Man and 2x Trilogy Suite H/S/S setup. :)
