Do I have a blown guitar speaker?
« on: April 03, 2017, 06:38:03 PM »
Hey everyone, need some help. I just measured the DC resistance of my cabinet. It reads 12.8 Ohms, attached a picture.
Now I know the multimeter reading is a bit off usually plus the speakers are original made in England G12-65s with 15 Ohms rating, but isn't 12.8 very off? I don't wanna risk to blow my OT, especially since I play a DSL 100 and we all know everything after the JCM 800 series had downsized Iron and is not that fit to handle an impedance missmatch anymore.

If a speaker is blown is there any way to tell (apart from putting my ear next to each one)? Please help me out, scared to play my amp right now.

Cheers

most 16 ohm celestion speakers will read right about that (somewhere between 12 and 13 ohms)
8 ohm speakers read about 6 ohms

Ok... just did some additional googling. Seems to be perfectly fine. I'm a dork for not using Google in the first place  :embarrassed:
Anyway, thanks Eric!
