OK. I ordered a set of BKP Rebel Yells straight from BKP and put them into my Swamp Ash Explorer. I lived with it a few weeks but was so unhappy with the Explorer's tone that I decided to sell it so I swapped the originals back in. Suddenly the guitar came alive again. I had thought the Rebel Yell would be hot enough for what I wanted to do with this guitar but apparently not.
Which BKPs are similar to the 496/500? I need to find someone out there to trade with on a different set and I don't want to just keep trying pairs of BKPs.
I really love my Mules. Absolutely love them. For real high gain I need something else. I tried the Abraxas with a Mule neck. Loved the mule neck but didn't care for the Abraxas. I've also tried an Emerald at some point and my first set was a cold sweat set, which were only "ok". Which pickup am I missing for high gain?
