Pickups after covers have been removed
« on: May 13, 2017, 08:50:24 AM »
I'm thinking of getting the covers on one of my sets removed (admittedly, for purely aesthetic reasons) and I wondered how they will look after? Will they be a bit messy with globs of wax on them, or will they look just like a new set of open coil pickups? The alternative, I suppose, is to get my brushed nickel covers swapped for black ones - do BKP do that?

They do remove the covers for free and they shouldn't look messy afterwards.

I'm also worried at how it might affect the sound of the pickups.  I've watched the video comparing covered and open coil pickups, and I am also aware that BKP compensate for this in the wind of the pickup. So, if my pickups were wound to be covered, will they sound too bright with covers off?

I don't think it's gonna make a big difference, but there will be a litle. I would't worry about that personally.
