My main guitar is currently a Fender Jaguar Classic Player with HH pickups. I'm planning on replacing the neck pickup for a warm but clear HSP90 or humbucker (leaning towards the former). Eventually, I'll also be replacing the bridge pickup with a humbucker, but there's no real rush to that as I'm quite satisfied with the current one.
I like the idea of having a single coil pickup in the neck slot, and it just so happens dat the HSP90 would fit without leaving large spaces around it. However, I'm unclear on the technicalities of replacing humbuckers with single coils in a Jag. Is that a would-recommend, or maybe just stick to humbuckers altogether? In case of HSP90s the output would also have to sort of be 'up there' in order to work along with a humbucker, I feel. I know just about nothing about the technical aspects of guitars and life in general, so I'd love any insight.
As for which exact HSP90 or humbucker would suit me best in the neck slot I'd love some input as well. I'm a relatively effects-reliant indie/art rock guitarist. My style is somewhat jangly and percussive, but more so in a riff-based Afro-pop/Afro-rock kind of way (hardly in a Johnny Marr/surf rock/dream pop kind of way). I feel like full mids and highs are more important than well-defined lows.
