Best pickup currently for tech death metal
« on: July 07, 2017, 03:55:27 AM »
I'm looking to get some BKP pickups for my new ibanez prestige i'm going to be getting soon. I have ceramic nailbombs in my SG and love it, but my SG isn't really my tech death metal guitar. I love the tone it has for rhythm but I need something for my ibanez (my tech death guitar )

I have another Ibanez where i'm rocking a dimarzio X2n in the bridge and tone zone at the neck, and I absolutely love the combo. For my new prestige, I want to get use BKP pickups but get a similar tone as my current ibanez prestige (X2n and tonezone)

From what i've searched around here the ceramic warpig or nailbomb would be the best bet, but I want to ask before I dish the money on these bad boys. I play a step down btw.

Forget about the Nailbomb for tech death.

The best one for that is Painkiller no doubt seconded by Cpig. I think Suizmec used the PK in Necrophagist f.e.

Yeah I would go for the Painkiller or Ceramic Warpig, depending on your guitar type. Brighter guitar go for the C-Pig.

Another vote here for the Ceramic Warpig (Cpig)

If I was to get an ash body guitar, would the C-pig be a bit too ice-picky?

Can anyone vouch for a PK in the bridge and a Warpig (Alcino maybe) at the neck?

C-pig is still pretty smooth on the high end, so I don't think it will get ice picky. Aftermath is quite a popular neck choice to go with warpig.

C-pig ice-picky? maybe if you put it into a broomstick but not in a guitar :)

Swamp ash for death metal = Cpig

Mahogany for TECH death metal = Painkiller

I'd personally go for painkiller instead of warpig for tech death metal. I find warpig just a bit "too big" sounding. But again, painkiller could be too harsh.

My guitar is listed as "ash" so i'm not sure if its swamp ash. I'm putting it into an Ibanez RGR652AHB once it's released.

Nice guitar that one, but afaik ash is not as trebblish as swamp one, so the Cpig might be too deep in the bass for tech death. Plus, I'm talking about the 7 string versions all the time, bear that in mind. My opinion is also biased I guess since I use 27' scale guitars with ss frets so even the Cpig isn't bassy at all. In your shoes, I'd go for the Painkiller though that beast should be tamed properly, but anyway, I'd ask Tim or whoever at bareknuckle before making the wrong decision. In case of doubt, I'd go for the Black Winters, those never disappoint for extreme styles.

What about the Aftermath? Wasn't it originally designed with tech death in mind?

I know they're not strictly tech death but Paradise Lost (tech doom?) Use Aftermaths.
