I feel the same way.
The last few releases have really been djent oriented. The pickups might be good for other things, but they were only invented because of the “buy all my signature gear” djent bands who seem to make more money selling gear than music. Nothing wrong with getting your money from elsewhere. But the video from Blub selling his newest pickups feels like a car salesman trying to convince me to buy the most expensive car they have, claiming it will do everything I need like it’s some magic car.
It makes me never want to give that guy my money.
Right? Did no think i was alone in this sentiment, so firstly - thank you for the response. I realize the idea of preaching dissent isn't popular over here, but like i was saying in that post - i wouldn't expressing such things if i didn't care. If i wasn't a huge fan of these pickups at one time.
Anyway, regarding them making pickups that aren’t related to some djent band. I asked them if they had any plans to make an Alnico 2 or 4 contemporary pickup. Never got a response. Don’t hold your breath.
This is the part that truly bothers me, the part that caused me to speak up. It's that they really don't seem to give a shite about anything else; even responding to perfectly honest questions about the possibility of new (AIV & AII) pickup types. The company i remember used to have a truly excellent connection to their users/fans. I've talked to Tim on numerous occasions, and found he always had great responses to my inquiries. I suppose that non-response is also telling... possibly saying they don't appreciate any questioning towards this very specific and focused direction BKP are going with their pickups. The Djent pickup company one might think, from their last 4-5 new offerings.
Truthfully the experience dealing with them has declined steadily over the years, on a couple different levels. A couple years back i played a large part in getting the guitar store i work at to become a dealer. While the utterly massive initial buy-in wasn't a huge turn-off, i thought it was a little presumptuous, assuming the market was still a bit unknown/untested. But we went for it anyways, assuming we would undoubtedly sell such a popular product. I won't get into the details of how they sold and how long it took us to move them, that's a point to make at a different time... but my distaste began when we tried to order pickup covers, due to customers wanting different options than what was available in the store. Stocking a few different cover types to meet customer needs makes perfect sense, as opposed to making a custom order and waiting 3-5 weeks each time for them to make it to the US. So by this reasoning, i asked about how we could order (noticing the option wasn't listed on the dealer site) a few different sets of covers, we were simply told - "we don't sell covers separate, you have to order them with a pickup". No compromise whatsoever, official dealer or not. At this time i don't think we've made an order since.
So essentially what this says is their product, at least in our market, became 'dead in the water' based on their current offerings. Not because of the quality therein, but because of the choices they've made in managing in their product line, and from what they're chosen to offer dealers in terms of options. Experienced first hand in black and white, from a fan/user enthusiastically intent on selling their product. Take that how you will.
this is hadly just a "djent" voiced pickup
from specs, it seems more like a beefed up miracle man, with more midrange, less top end and definitely more output
I suppose it has the huge 6 mm ceramic magnet like the juggernaut instead of the regular 4 mm bar
Hey Eric, how's it going man. Since you and i have had some seriously informative and in-depth discussions over time i'd like to say that i value your opinion highly, possibly more than anyone else on this forum. Despite that sir, i must respectfully disagree. I think having the audio sample option of "heavy rhythm" very clearly identifies those products as intended for djent use. I respect that any user is free to seek out and find use for pickups in whatever fashion they choose, but surely you could say that fits with everything they sell. Like you could certainly use a Riff Raff or Stormy Monday for djent metal too.... doesn't mean it will necessarily work great, but if it does then cool.
My questioning is not about their application possibilities, but their direction itself. Truthfully and objectively i listed to every Ragnarock clip with an open mind and found that it does not interest me in the least. I've owned/played enough of these (8 or 9 at least) to know what it's going to do, by said comparison to those i've already played/owned. Really, my favorite BKP pickup ever was named after a Led Zepplin song - and i don't think i've ever listened to them (on purpose) a day in my life. I just, personally speaking, do not think i will ever be compelled to buy a pickup voiced for and named after a djent song. And i doubt i'm alone in this sentiment.
