I actually hear quite a pronounced difference between the Mesa OEM v30 vs the Chinese v30.  Maybe it is the mixing practice?

RE: Dream tone.  The more you play, the more you discover how much your 'sound' is in your hands.  The way you play has a massive impact on how the music translates live or on a recording.  An amplifier is merely a tool to that end.
I watched Glenn Fricker's video on 'the tone is in the hands' where he had all skilled metal players playing metal into a boosted peavey.  Obviously, the overall sound was quite consistent because the style was the same.  I had the Dual Recto (That I sold) boosted and when my brother tried my 7 string guitar through that setup, he sounded like he was playing rock / grunge because that is what he trained his hands to do.  When he hands me the guitar, the 'sound' of the rig totally changed.

That being said, make no mistake: ReVv is on the same teir as Deizel or Mesa Boogie, and it doesn't need a boost.  They are absolutely crazy amps :)

Yeah maybe, probably cos I was listening using cr@ppy computer speakers. Will try again with headphones.

Yeah of course, you can give two people the same guitar, amp and cab but they'll still sound different. I would love a Diezel VH4 though, channel 3 is alone is enough to own one!

Arrived earlier today:

Heavy as f**k to carry but sure as hell notice the difference. Tighter bass end, warmer mids and a singing high end, sounds great!

I'm guessing I'll have to play those speakers in a bit as I couldn't turn it up to gig volume. That resonance control knob on the 6505+ is something I need to keep an eye on and use properly, before I'd have it around 7/8 and it'd get a bit flubby. Roll it back to 4 and it gives a great chugging tone.

I'm still gonna keep the Marshall and experiment with different speakers however. Maybe throw in some of the ones suggested on here with the V30's.

Yeahhh, those 4x12 sound fantastic, but they are heavy like a rhino. I have a 2x12 cab that is already a big lump to carry. A 4x12 is a no go for me, unless I get a roadie ;-).
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

Yeah I run resonance at 4 with the Orange PPC412

Definitely took a while for my speakers to break in at low volume - in fact it never happened.  Once I started playing through them at gigging volume they broke in fairly quickly.

You are learning about the heaviness of these cabs!

Yeah man, they are built well, for the rigours of touring! I had to hold off buying a new 4x12 for a while as in the old band I only had my trusty 3 door car, but now in this new one there's a van so transporting it isn't a problem. Previously I may have got a 2x12 and maybe stacked it on a box or got 2x12's and split it.

I think I can run it around 5/6 with the Orange, with the Marshall its way too flubby and woofy. I hated it. I think if its above 6 its more of a doom sludge metal sound, roll it back and its more modern and tight. I like it tight and bright! As its a cab that sits on the floor it can't move and its heavy so the bass end will be better.

I guess if I turn up the post gain it'll help shape the tone a bit more, as this was on about 0.5 in the house! I can't wait to get the full exposure with the post-gain on 2.5/3.

How long did it take for yours to be "broken in"? Its going to be used for some rehearsals so should help speed up the process as its cranked more in rehearsal than gigs (every soundman up and down the UK tell me to turn down!)

It won't take too long as long as you have it fairly loud.

One thing I find with my amp is that the resonance/presence settings need to be much more extreme at lower volumes, so I expect you might turn the resonance and presence back at full gigging voliume

I should think so, we play quite regularly with our own backline and rehearsals are more than a few hours, its usually 10-5 though we're not playing every minute half of it is messing about winding up other members haha.

And noticed that too, at lower volumes the higher the resonance is the better it sounds but if you turn up the amp suddenly it doesn't sound so good anymore!
