Does everyone need a Mule?
« on: September 06, 2017, 08:47:19 PM »
I recently bought a Mule set to go in one of my guitars because it was the right pickup for that guitar but I don't find that I'm using it all that much. I have a Nailbomb set, a Crawler set and a Cold Sweat set in other guitars and they all get used much more than the Mules. I play mainly new wave, dark wave, alternative and industrial sorts of music and I suppose the Mules are just a bit too "classic" and I don't really play classic rock as such. So, I suppose my question is really this; do keep hold of the Mules just in case I will need something a little more "classic" one day or do I pass them on and get another set of Nailbombs?

How good Mules may be, not everybody needs PAF59-copies. It's a different animal compared to modern pickups like a NB. If you like NB's, Crawlers and CS just sell them. You make somebody very happy.

Btw, I totally love Mules and will keep them forever. I rate them higher than the Crawler in my strat, in which is performs beautiful. But I like the clear dynamic balanced Mules for a lot of stuff. They can do highgain too. I remember Nolly once made a metalclip with Mules. You just need the right amp. I like Mules on highgainamps, but ok, I don't play (much) metal.

Its funny, because even though the Mules are still probably my overall favourite BKP, I haven't played my Mule guitars in ages either.

I had a revelation a few months ago playing some cleans with the Cold Sweat and its probably my "favourite at the moment"

It comes down to what works for you at that moment, which style of music and type of amp. By example. the Crawler -> Orange RV1 cab2x12 is sometimes to much (mids) for me. I like the Crawler splitted better on the Orange. But on my Diezel Schmidt the Crawler roars like hell. Different amps and cabs make a lot of difference.

Yup, different amps work with different pickups.  I wasn't too keen on the A-Bomb but then I tried it with channel 3 on a ReVv Generator 120.  WOW!!!!!  =-o

This is FUN!
