I have wired it in parallel once. It is very much the same character but vs. series wiring
- brighter/enhanced top end
- less low mids
- a little less output
I probably would not use parallel as standard wiring but for full size humbuckers at the neck it is a viable option, and it retains the humcancelling properties of the coils.
Keep in mind that I used 500k volume and tone pots. Nowadays when I wire pickups in parallel I reduce the load in parallel mode to something like 250k in order to avoid excessive brightness. To do this is easy - you have to solder a resistor (470k to 560k - if you want 500k exactly you have to use two 1 meg ohm resistors in parallel as 500k is not a standard value) between the two middle lugs. The resistor does nothing in series mode as the lugs are connected but in parallel it drops the load from 500k to about 230k to 260k.
