Painkiller in mahogany is perfection, so what about alder/maple?
« on: September 09, 2017, 11:28:00 AM »
Hey guys,

my number one guitar for a long time has been an all mahogany superstrat with ebony fretboard. I've always used a BKP Painkiller in this particular guitar, and I've never found such a perfect combination. I love the aggression, clarity and the huge amount of mids. No I've bought an ESP M-II neck thru with maple neck, alder wings and ebony fretboard. Which pickup in your opinion would get the closest results to mahogany/Painkiller combo? I've got a Warpig in one ash-bodied guitar, and I'm not as satisfied with that one. Also, based on clips I'm pretty sure i wouldn't like the aftermath. I'm more in favor of an "old school" kind of tone. Maybe Holy Diver, although I'm not sure about tightness/articulation with that one? By the way, I tune to C#. And yep, you guessed it, I play metal.

no pickup will make it sound the same
miracle man usually works very well, but it sounds quite different
perhaps the atermath or a c-pig could get closer
Riff Raff, Mules, Black Dog, VHII's, Cold Sweat

Why not try painkiller in that guitar? It could totally work.
Aftermath (bridge), alnico Black hawk (set), holydiver (set)

I've been thinking about this option as well! So you don't think that painkiller would overly bright in a guitar like this?
