ISP Decimator?
« on: April 09, 2006, 10:52:01 PM »
there was a thread here a while ago on the ISP Decimator and there was a link to an online shop with a tasty pricetag of around £65 - anyone got the link? or.... where can I get one cheapest?

i think www.highlystrung.co.uk has it for £79 inc. delivery- i was under the impression that that was the cheapest you could get it for here. that's why i bought it there, lol, needless to say i'll be a bit miffed (yes, I read the beano when I was younger!) if it turns out you can get one for £65.

I know sounds great is selling it for £99...

cool, I'll look into getting one - do they do heavy gating for those metal riffs a-la Dimebag?

also, how do most of you run your gates? - I've been using my MXR Smartgate into the front end of my amp but it trims the bass end out more than I can live with (I do use the highest gate settings though)

anyone know what gate Dime used?

I use it in my amp effect loop to clean up the amp and preamp noise. It does not affect attack, sustain or tone.  You can use it at the end of the pedal chain effects also. :)

On Dimebag, I read he used on some songs a Boss NF-1 noise gate, and a Rocktron guitar silencer. This rocktron is from the same guy that made the isp decimator.  :)

I've decided it sounds better (more natural) in front of the amp, than in the loop.

Of course, if i had two, i'd put one in each, lol.

I've tried both into the frontend of the amp and in the loop now - straight into the amp is much better.  I'll get the Decimator and see how it matches up to the MXR Smartgate.

The decimator will slay the smart gate. I've tried them side by side....the decimator is completely...I mean 100%, transparent. All it does it cut noise, and leaves the tone 100% in tact, whether on or off. The perfect noise gate.

I have yet to try it straight into the amp. Just got it on friday. I like so far the loop thing, but this weekend I am going for the front. Certainly I am getting another pretty soon. This thing is amazing. Greetings from the birthplace of the Blues.  :)

I want the rack version, it'll run two Decimators one in the loop and one infront, best yet it monitors when you play using a side chain idea so it'll never cut sustain. PLus the Decimator in front deals with guitar noise and in the loop sorts the amp noise out...just costs lots

^yeah, that's the problem, hayden - i was half thinking of the rack version because it can go in front and in the loop at the same time (i'd need to get a rack, lol), but you can buy two decimator pedals for about half the price of the rackmount.

I didn't realise the rackmount version didn't cut sustain, though- although the pedals are pretty decent at not doing that, anyway.
