NPsD - Triple Wreck, MXR Super Badass Distortion, EHXtortion

I picked up recently three "new" pedals. The idea was to try some distortion pedals with three band EQs and incorporating boost switch

Triple Wreck
I actually built this one myself using a Fuzz Dog kit. It sounds good and thick, but the low end can easily get out of control. Still, I tweaked a sound I liked out of it and I've used it for every gig and rehearsal since I knocked it up. I like the convenience of the size of the box, but it eats batteries.

EHXtortion
An eBay score. I had high hopes for this one and was disappointed. It sounds good, but theres not nearly enough gain on the normal channel. I'll keep it in case I can later mod it, since I like the feature set. The gain turns in on itself a bit on the higher settings of the boost channel.

MXR Super Badass Distortion
Another eBay purchase. Unfortunately, this one doesn't have a boost option, but I will try a few boosters with it over the weekend. Really liked this one, easy to dial in sounds, works in a very easy going way and sounds good too. Plus the box is small and it doesn't use much power. The gain doesn't sound too good too high up, but mid gain is nice. The EQ is nicely dialled in.

The follow up to this is that I'd like to try the Amp Tweaker pedals (Tight Metal, Fat Rock etc etc), or some other pedals on this line.

Amptweaker has a lot of sonic possibilities. Good pedals for sure. I'm eyeballing on the Suhr Eclipse. I don't know if I really need it, since I have the Emma Reezafratzitz, Suhr Riot first version, Boss BD-2 and the Brunetti MB2.

I woke up this morning to a reasonable priced AmpTweaker Tight Metal Pro on eBay, so I've snagged that and we'll see.

I was A-Bing the Super Badass Distortion and the Triple Wreck last night and while they are both good pedals I lean towards the Triple Wreck.

The FuzzDog version of it has a different booster circuit, which I think works really well, not that I've tried the original in real life.

this thing exudes quality and I've not even plugged it in. Truly, it is a professional pedal.

I do like it, I think its a nicely designed pedal. MXR did some survey to find peoples favourite pedal from them. The top three were the Carbon Copy, Phase 90 and Super Badass distortion. Having tried a bunch of MXR pedals I agree these are also my top three. The Super Badass is similar in quality to these classics. It sounds good up until slightly beyond JCM800 gain levels. It has a natural earthy quality to it, the three band EQ is very diallable.

However, I will say that the Amptweaker Tight Metal Pro is really in another class. I love that thing and I haven't unplugged it since it arrived. Its probably higher gain than your looking for, starts at JCM800 crunch and in the end heads beyond Rectifier and 5150 gain levels. They have one for rock as you probably know, which would be on my short list if I would be in your place.

How about the MI Audio Super Crunch Box? The original Crunch Box is pretty good and the super one looks like it takes it to the next level.

I've been listening some more Amptweaker-vids. First they are clever pedals, and second, they all sound good. I particularly like the Tight Drive and Big Rock (for the music I play).
