Stormy bridge in the neck?
« on: October 13, 2017, 06:44:54 PM »
Hallo guys!
I'm new here, my name is Francesco and I'm from Italy
I've just recieved my brand new set of Bare Knuckles. They are for my '57 Les Paul Custom reissue 3 pickups.
I've choosen a set of Stormy Mondays for neck and center position and a PG bridge for bridge position.
The guitar itself has a quite pronunced attack so I went with Alnico II to soften it a little bit and hoping to make it sound a little rounder (other than that I'm a big fan of A2 mags).
Now....I was thinking about the chance to put the Stormy bringe in the neck and the Stormy neck in the center....What do you think? It's crazy? I've got an R9 with original  long magnets '50 PAF's and the neck DC resistance is about 7.2, closer to the Stormy neck, and I love it! But since I have tho opportunity to instell them the way I want I would like to hear what you guys think. What I should expect putting the Stormy bridge n the neck? What would you do?

Thanks in advance

Francesco

You could get too much output in comparison. The bridge pickups are made to be higher output and have more bass than the neck model, as the sting movement at the bridge is smaller, so they are made to compensate. Using the bridge in the neck could then overdo those.

I am not saying that it can not work, not at all, but I would personally be more comfortable with putting a neck PU in the bridge than the other way around most of the time (I might try my MQ neck in the bridge one day with a PAF in the neck, cause then the output could still work nicely).

If you are quick with a soldering iron there is no real harm in trying it out, but generally I would say to trust in BKP and go the common route. They know what they are making and rarely should be overruled in their knowledge.

Btw, great PU choice. Those Stormies and PGs are incredible and underrated.
BKPs in use: 10th set / RY set / Holy Diver b, Emerald n / Crawler bridge, Slowhand mid MQ neck/ Manhattan n
On the sidelines: Stockholm b / Suppermassive n, Mule n, AM set, IT mid

The Mule would great too as a bridgepickup. It doesn't have any annoying topend. I love alnico IV (for the music I play).
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.
