Exploring some split coil bridge tones. Rhythm is a Gravity Storm bridge in split mode. Everything else is abraxas.

You know I dig your music and skills, yet in this case the split-mode is imho a tad harsh and therefore a little ear-fatiguing. Maybe it's the recording, dunno. I think it might work better when blending two of the same guitartracks, one with with split, one without. Full sound with some extra chime on top.

Btw, I'm exploring the split of the Crawler as well. Sounds even quite fat on my Rockerverb.

You are correct!  I am going to be retracting the rhythm parts with the mic moved more off axis and will re-eq these tracks. Just had a baby, so the music has to wait. I’m just getting him to learn how to hold a pic.

Alrighty! 

Retracked - this time with my first outboard gear purchase - a Warm Audio TB12 Mic Pre.  It just does great things to the guitar - especially when you push the thing into clipping.  Still have some touch-up work to do and a few more layers of candy here and there, but it's a decent rough idea.

I feels like the guitar is more integrated in the song, with a smoother edge whilst not loosing the agressive uppermids.

Thanks, man.  Your initial feedback was really helpful.  It’s helpful to push away from the desk after a few hours of mixing, so one can come back with fresh ears. 

I really feel like I’ve reached a plateau in my skill set. I need some professional guidance to break out of my amateur rut!  I sometimes find my mixes sound 4” deep, where more professionally mixed tracks sound like there’s infinite space front and back. I have so much more to learn about EQing.

Yeah man, recording and mixing is so difficult,  and earfatigue plays a big role in that. Anyway, I don't have much clue of it really as I just went into studio's and played my thing. The rest I left to the pro's. So I have to congratulate you on your performances.
