Looking to upgrade electronics.
« on: December 16, 2017, 05:26:43 PM »
Hey guys,

I'm looking to upgrade electronics in my Ibanez guitars. I have several RG prestiges and i've always heard that the stock electronics aren't really the best. I was hoping to get some recommendations of what electronics I should specifically upgrade. I'm looking to get the BKP 550K CTS pots, which would require me to drill my hole bigger on my guitar so they can fit. In addition to the pots, what other electronics upgrades do you folks recommend?

I would upgrade the switch.  I just don't know what to recommend but upgrading the wiring, switch, and jack is as important as upgrading the pots, often more so.

You could just use a tapered reamer to enlarge the holes

What Dave said!  :afro:
In all seriousness, What type of pickups are you running?

If you have humbuckers and want to try different things with tone you can try coil splitting.

You can play with the type of switch you have as well (Both Humbuckers and single coil).

You may be able to play with Capacitors as well.

Depending on what type of switch your guitar has you can upgrade the switch

With the Pots you can do push and pull pots depending what you want to accomplish.
There are even some Pots that when put to a certain setting act as though they are not part of the circuit and may up your output.

There's a lot of Mods just depends what way you want to go.

I sometimes look at Frank Zappa's old guitar for inspiration.
