BKPs and wah pedal, weird conclusion
« on: January 20, 2018, 02:44:33 PM »
Hi, after few years of using BKPs and having 4 guitars loaded with them, recently I came to some conclusion regarding various pickups and wah pedal. Although I`m not a bit wah pedal user, just throw it in sometimes for some solos I discovered that some pickups likes wah more, some less.
Even that my Ceramic Nailbomb is the worst pickup to play solos it`s the most wah friendly. I also have 2 guitars with Miracle Man bridge and one with Cold Sweat bridge and all those seem to retain more core character under wah and be tougher to let the  wah do the job.

in simple words... CBomb lets wah to quack the most while other not so much. Im talking only about bridge pickups. Wah I use is MXR Audio Electronics MC-404.

Does anyone agree with me, just being curious.

Lucas, I have the same CAE 404 too, but this wah is darker than most Cry Baby-types or Voxes, even in the orange setting. In fact this wah works as a treat with bright amps, but no so with others amps like the Orange Rockerverb 50. I prefer my Vox with that amp. Any BKP I have sounds good through with this wah-amp combo.

Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

I use mine on red settings as I`m not big fan or bright quacky wah Kirk Hammett style. Regarding amp I use Orange Dual Terror. Don`t get me wrong, all my BKPs works fine, but some (in my opinion) works better and some retain original/core sound stronger

 or it`s only me...

Of course some pickups have frequencies that get peaked by a wah, in an unpleasant way. I have no problems with the Crawler nor the Mule.
Sorry for my English, not native...

Well, I didnt mean they sound bad, just some are more prone letting the wah do its job than the others.

by the way what is your opinion about that wah? I have rather mixed fellings.

I tend to use my Vox more than the CAE 404, which I find too dark for my Orange. It worked great on my former Koch Multitone. The CAE is not as agressive as my Vox. Anyway, both these wah's have pro's and con's. I'm looking at the Jerry Cantrell Dunlop-wah which to my ears has a great sound.

Well, both Miracle Man and cold Sweat sounded great with my Cantrell Crybaby and even better with my bandmates custom wah

What brand is the custom wah? Or selfmade?
