I've been looking at the BYOC site and their Tri Booster looks pretty cool, has anyone used it? Heres the link to it: http://www.buildyourownclone.com/tri.html

Do they even ship to the UK? It seems like a pretty good price ($90 is around £50 I think) but I dunno if its even any good? I wanted to get a pedal to try out building/wiring first, as eventually I want to build one of the heads from www.ampmaker.co.uk and these seemed like a good thing to try first.

EDIT - just read on the site they dont ship direct from the US anymore.. I'm thinkin of getting one from their german distrubutor http://www.degiergitaarbouw.nl/#, anyone had experience from here by any chance?

G'n'T Guitars bring them in, http://www.gntguitars.com/ , give Callum a call and I am sure he will let you know if what iyour are after is in stock, or how long it would take to get. Great chap and I really recommend dealing with him (met him at the recent Prog Power festival in Cheltenham).

I've just bought the BYC Chorus, although I am yet to build it as I am recovering after almost losing a good chunk of my left hand index finger.... but that's another story!

I would give Callum a call anyway, chances are they may still have stock. The other option would be to order direct from the US.

I built a triboost for my first kit and found it not overly difficult to make and fun to use. Not easy, mind you. But OK for a first timer.

Just be sure to take your time!

The cover on the left is used to cover up the saucy babes when my mother-in-law comes over. In this way she remains blissfully ignorant of the pervert her daughter married. :D

The graphics are all a single sheet of water-slide decal.

I set up the general print size and figured out where the holes would be first. Then printed a few drafts of regular paper to make sure everything lined up correctly.

After the holes were located, I used a photo editing program to put in the lettering and the babes.

Once the size and location was checked with a few more drafts, I printed out the decal, transfered it to the box, and after it was dry, gave it a few thin coats of clear to seal it in place.

There is some info available about graphics and painting on the BYOC site and in the pdf instructions that tell you how to assemble the kits.

I think if--OK, when--I make another of the kits that I was going to try this guy's idea. Really neat.

Cool, can you get the water slide decal paper anywhere then? Seems like a good idea. I want a Tri Booster now. Whats it sound like?

I've just ordered the Delay and Tremolo through De Gier. Thanks for the input on finishing the casings. If I have them finished I'll let you know about the building process and the sound of them.

This post led me off on a bit of a hunt as I wanted another couple of kits to build (having just done the Paranormal from TGM). De Gier does stock the kits and the PCB's. However I also found http://www.tonepad.com/ who provide a selection of PCB's, diagrams, etc. I've ordered 5 of them and sourced all the various components from my own collection, Maplins, RS Components and Smallbear Electronics in the US. A couple of unusual value caps I got from http://www.justradios.com/ though had to buy more than I needed to make a minimum order.

Once I have everything and some working pedals I will report back with more details and prices, but the whole lot is costing around £85 so far though I still have 3 boxes, 10 jack sockets, 4 switches and a multitude of knobs to buy. Still seems like exceptionally good value to me if you're handy with a soldering iron and can read a circuit.

Oh, the ones I'm trying out are clones of the Tubescreamer (with correct JRC4558D chip), CE2 Chorus, Brian May Treble Booster, Tremulus Lune and Green Ringer.

Small tip on printing out decals. If you have a scanner, put the box with holes drilled face down and scan it (cover with a towel to stop too much light. You then have a JPG of actual you can open in a graphics editing program, add your lettering, etc, then print out actual size.

I've built the BYOC Tube Screamer Clone and it's fairly straight forward to construct. The instructions have loads of colour graphics / photo's and are in pdf format on the website. Further to this there is a BYOC forum where you can get guidance from Keith who makes the kits if you have any problems. The kits come with additional diodes / capacitors and op amps to try out all the available mods.

It's a pitty that there is no UK distributor at the moment.

Yeah the decal thing is a good idea. Pity I cant afford a BYOC now, but I'm tempted when I get my strat finished :D
