Looking for Bridge pickup for Es 335 type guitar (Metal)
« on: June 02, 2018, 12:13:09 AM »
Recently got a Riff Raff and Duncan WLH for the bridge, they both sound great but they are not quite what I am going for in this guitar.

I really like the Warpig a5 but am unsure if it will work or not in this, would be thrilled it if it would. Loved it (Warpig a5) in my old les paul, and was my favorite pickup for Les Pauls in general but sadly I do not have this guitar or pickup any longer.

I'm thinking, a5 Warpig, a5 Nailbomb, or Holydiver. Love the Riff Raff but not quite what I am working with.

I play in a international band that is considered Black/Death metal, but has been called something of a black Floyd.  We play music that isnt quite shelved into one genre. We use dirty cleans, slide guitars, dobros and stuff like this. Though both I and the other guitarists use Eastman guitars (mine is the T386 all Maple with Rosewood finger/fret board ).

We use 1968 Laney Super Group, 1974 Fender Bandmaster, or 1970 Bassman (<-- For Europe), and  (For USA- ->)1984 Laney AOR 1 ProTube Lead and 1970 Fender Bassman. He has a custom made pedal from is former band and I sometimes use Tonebone Classic with the valve for rhythm and lead gain.

Any information that will help to narrow down the selection, will greatly be appreciated. The photo below is my guitar.

Hi there, to be honest it's quite a specific and atypical remit so I imagine people are a little scared off! I've never tried a Warpig in a hollowbody, but if you know what you're getting into I'd say give it a shot. Perhaps the mid/hot output range is worth avoiding here, so the Warpig would be my pick of the three you mentioned.

I guess the only obvious problem with such a high output pickup could be uncontrollable feedback. I guess you have a solid centre block in that thing, so it shouldn't be that bad. Didn't DeLonge have a Dirty Fingers in his signature semi-acoustic.

Yes that's right.

I think an alnico Warpig might work in that case.

Hey thanks, yes it has a solid block core, all maple, thought this guitar is darker than you would think it may be. It has a very acoustic  (guitar) quality to it.  I have had 0 feedback issues, but I tell if you want feed back as part of your effects it  has no problem producing some sweet ass feedback on sustaining notes or chords.

I think I will give the a5 Warpig a shot, probably chrome cover's with the black hex bolts, supposedly the hex is thought to give it a more focused bottom and then again it is said that it is much of a difference for the common ear to notice.

I thank you folks for your replies, as it is always useful to consider other perspectives.

Nolly, it has been awhile since I visited this forum and dived into studies of gear, so I hope you have been well and productive, I have no idea what you have been up to, ha!

Cheers to all!
