Aftermath : Favourite BKP (at the moment!!)

I went through a Cold Sweat phase, but now I'm stuck on the Aftermath. Its like a sort of love child of a Cold Sweat and Painkiller. I realise this was intended to by a modern djent-y sort of thing, but I like what it does through a Marshall in normal tuning. It gives a little update to that classic 80s thing with a more modern sounding attack.

Curious, I don't think there's a pickup in the bkp catalogue (and among other brands) that got so much hate. Good that works for you anyway.

I think it's mainly on this forum in the last few years, not the wider BKP user community.

The djentlemen have long deserted this forum for Facebook and Instagram.  The Aftermath used to be popular on here back when there were lots of Periphery fanboys coming here.  They are not as common here these days.  Also the fact that Misha Mansoor developed a couple of signature pickups since has meant that those who do remain have tended to focus on those rather than the Aftermath, which was what he mainly used before the Juggernaut set was developed.

edit: what was the hate about actually? the aftermath even won a couple of awards if I remember correctly.

Apart from what Sloven said, the aftermaths are considered quirurgical cold and harsh pickups, a one horse set according to other "more populated" forums. But, as Dave said, it's just a matter of that day's trend. First the EMG were cool, then everybody hated actives and especially EMG until the 57/66 or whatever arrived, After that the Nazgul was the best, which also got bashed pretty heavily, then came BKP and everybody loved them, the Black Winters were the new to-go set, and now everybody drools for a Fishman set.

if you listen to Origin's Aftermath, it is quite a cold tone. I guess they were going for that. Plenty of "organicness" in a old Marshall though, probably compensates.

+1. It's all about the hype. I didn't go there, still all my guitars are BKP'd. When it sounds great, I see no reason to change things.

If that combo works for you everything is fine. Opinions are important, ears more important. Like I read everywhere that a Rockerverb doesn't take pedals well. Wrong, it does when you choose the right pedals. The same goes for other tools like pickups. Personally I would not pick the Aftermath, but if I did I guess I could be surprised.

To be fair the EMG 81 is pretty sterile. The reason why I am here and just ordered myself a Nailbomb! :)
