Regius Core Gothic 6 String - Pickup chioce

Hey there,

I am planning to purchase a Mayones Guitar, a “Regius Core Gothic 6 String” to be precise (https://mayones.com/page/regius-core-gothic-6/).

I know that I want to upgrade the pickups with two bare-knuckle humbuckers. And although I already have some pickups in mind (and already got some input from the nice guys at barenuckles), I would really value your unbiased opinion on what pickups you would recommend with regard to what I am looking for.

So, what am I looking for?

I want a new “main guitar” guitar that I will use mainly for some “modern sound high gain” stuff. Good examples would be Powerwolf / Album "Blood of the Saints", Rammstein or (although not so “modern”) Metallica the “black album”. I will normally not go “harder” or “more extreme” than that. Please note that I mostly play in “standard tuning”, so it is not that important if the pickups can handle detuning really well.

However, it would be nice to be able to use the guitar in other context as well, as long as the tone for the main purpose does not suffer too much. I really love the sound of Slash from “use your illusion” but the main thing here would be some flexibility as I sometimes play a wide range of music (although it´s mainly Metal I play different kind of hardrock and sometimes even stuff like dire straits …) and it’s always nice to not have to change your guitar for everything.

Amp wise I am mainly using an axe Fx III (so plenty of flexibility there) and occasionally an old Mesa/Boogie Mark III.

So, which of your pickups would you recommend?

This should be an interesting thread to watch as basically it seems that you're after a versatile metal pickup that can also dip into hard rock and even some mellower stuff. There are probably quite a few sets to choose from, from both flavours of Nail Bomb to Juggernauts, Rebel Yells to Aftermaths, and Miracle Man or Cold Sweats. There's even Mules if you don't mind getting your gain from your amp and not the pickup itself. Good luck with your quest and let's see what people suggest ...

It's ash on swampash and neckthru. It's easy: Miracle Man performs very well in this design. If you want a bit more focus on the mids and a slightly tamed topend you could look at the Juggernaut. If you want to go the classic route, so be able to play Slash stuff, think about the Holy Diver which can do Rammstein thru Axe-FX without a doubt. The Diver has imho one of the best solotones in the BKP-range.

Ben from bareknuckle recommend the Nailbomb set with the ceramic magnet option for the bridge. Any thoughts on that recommendation?

I've got a couple of Nail Bomb sets but both are the A5 variety. The Nail Bomb neck is one of my favourite pickups; it's got a very distinct, woody voice that can do both aggressive and delicate with equal ease. The bridge, again, has a very distinct voice that sits inside any mix really well, making this the ideal rhythm pickup. With the A Bombs in 2 guitars (one tuned to E standard and the other tuned down to D standard) and a Mule set in a 3rd guitar, I've got most things covered. The only thing I will say though, is although I really like my Nail Bombs, they are about as far from Slash's signature sound as you can get but personally I think that's a good thing ;)
