Hmmm....amps
« on: April 19, 2006, 06:41:29 PM »
Im looking for an amp head with a very clear distortion sound.

More gain and overdrive than tonns of distortion i suppose (although it would be nice to have the possibility of getting some metal tones).

Maybe 2 or 3 channels...one of blues style crunch, one for a nice modern overdrive tone, and for for metal?

Im not realy interested in clean tones as i have another amp for that.

So basically...can u guys make any suggestions??? :P

I hear the new Carvin V3 head is good.

Three channels and the clean channel has a gain knob so youve basicvally got 3 overdrive channels

been checking out that carvin - it actually sounds pretty good for modern tones. Since it's a Carvin it's a pretty good deal aswell 8)

Ye, Carvins are pretty cheap for some reason. I think the head costs about £700???

Mia, What kind of price range are you looking at?

something in the range of £400 - £750 I think. Because I need a cab as well.

Thanks for the replies.

The Carvin amp has something called midi. What is this?

Midi lets you create patches (in the same way as a multi effects i think).  So you can store a range of settings and access them easily without having to flip a load of switches and preform a little Irish dance every time you wanna change a setting. I dont no the technical side of it but its a usefull tool if you like multiple settings.

Take a look at the video on the Carvin website, the man with the big hedgehog hair talks about it.

If Bluesy rock is the vibe then you cant go past a Fender Blues Deville 4x10 combo. Run it through your favourite cab or just fit the speakers to the combo

I just cant rave about this amp enough.

But then again... The marshall DSL50 has already copped a mention and for good reason.
