What do you guys think of the band Rammstein? I ran a search on Rammstein here and any thread that talked about Engl's commented on Rammsteins tone, but it was always the same people.

My friends think their rubbish, that their songs are too easy, too simple, and sound like they took five minutes to write. They also think that Rammstein sucks because they sing in German. Lol.

They are my favorite metal band. I like plenty of metal bands, but I've always felt they have always missed something. Structure. This little sound I can't put my finger on, but Rammstein has it. They aren't the best musicians, and their early stuff was really repetitive, but their is something about their over the top full force German hardcore spirit that I like.

They are also all about rhythm. They have the strongest rhythms. Their solos are quick and short, and don't disturb the rhythm. Links 2 3 4 is a great example. You fail at life if you don't headbang atleast once to that song.

Holy $%&# I must see them live. Moskau live in St. Petersburg was insane.

I think Rammstien are great. German is the most metal language of anything and just sounds awesome. I think Du Hast has an incredible tone!!!

although they are slightly techno comical :P

I think they are something, their mix of Synth and Metal sound wasn't the greatest invention, but more a logical next step after techno, and they went for it and did it well.

Their songs and lyrics are simple and debateable, but they have a good sound and extremely tight rhythm work - their live play is as well hyper accurate - maybe that's the German influence :D

However, I think Richard Kruspe only plays his ESP signature with EMGs with a very good cable into a pure Dual Rectifier, wouldn't know about any ENGLs in his rig.

I LOVE RAMMSTEIN

They are one of the best live bands I have ever seen
The songs are fun and some of the German lyrics have a double meaning that may be lost on non German speaking listeners

I find the fact that they sing in German an extra challenge that makes the music more interesting rather than be put off by it.

I have friends who s love the sound of the German words but would actually hate to know what it means as it might destroy the pictures that the sounds conjure up in their heads.

I can also report that there are a lot of women who are obsessed by the singer Til Lindeman

They used to use Rath Amps - who no longer exist although their founder
Juergen Rath makes amps under the Vintage Amps banner I hear.
He is responsable for the 4x12" speaker simulation on the Behringer V amp range

well, now you know what it's like for people like me (=german) with 99.5% of all music being in English.

Well at least I understand EN, but many don't.

They're one of the tightest around, production is top notch and teh songs just work. A lot of modern metal is getting too cleaver for it's own good. I can't stand time sig changes for their own sake.

Rammstein also have there own style and sound which is saying a lot these days.

Paul Landers uses Engl Powerballs and Marshall cabs. Paul also has some Sansamp PSA-1's and I think Richard also has a Mesa Boogie Triaxis. Tight shite.

I have theirt DVD :good:

It is the best show I've ever seen.
Their songs are incredibly strong.

I know....all the seasoned pro's are very snobistic about them
But I really like their raw power, energy and the show.

Easy?...only the chords....not the total product.

ODBF, get rid of your friends. I can understand that people don't like Rammstein but that doesn't mean it's bad.

Yea, rammstein isnt for everyone. the music is simple but has an immense driving force behind it. That alone makes up for a lack of complex melodies. I loved their older stuff before the most recent 2 albums. especially first album or two. I loved the techno elements. Guitars were reserved for making the tracks beefy as ~@!# whilst the keyboards were for the little repetitive melodies. Rammstein are all about power, but some dont see past the fact its simple. Thats what makes rammstein a great band. If the music wasnt simple, it would lose its driving force and power.

My thoughts anyway

Ja! Rammstein ist gut!

not quite as gut as KMFDF for my money, but still gut.

while i don't have a problem with the German language-vocals, i could see how the vocal style is probably something of an aquired taste, and puts people off. took me a few listens to get used to it.

my one criticism is that i think they should should have an umlaut in their name somewhere, as this could very well make them the most ultimately hard band in the world.

also, i have to point out one thing: of course it's repetitive! it's industrial! it's a combination of techno and metal, and techno is generally based on repeating loops, so what did you expect? :lol:

To be honest, I think the German vocals work with the style of music much better. But the riffs are really, really stompy and chuggachuggachug. I love 'em, I picked their first album up ages ago, I may have to whack that on in a bit. 8)

i prefer their older stuff. their new music sounds too clinical and produced. when i listen to them now its like listening to a dance club, whereas before it was like listening to a mine in the industrial revolution. It's lost its character. Awesome live show!

yea i loved the tracks like 'Du hast' and 'du reischt so gut' . Nowadays the keyboard parts and they lost a hell of a lot of their techno elements. Plus their chugging isnt up to scratch.

Still, about them singing in german. Im glad, it completes the music. For a start, german is a punchy coarse language. They can sing normally (without shotuing/screaming/roaring and it still sounds rough with impact. Plus the lyrics translated are pretty poor in my opinion! I would rather not understand them. Du hast was good tho with the whole 'have/hate' trick.

I think it's the same thing over here in Germany: Even if most of the people do understand English (to a certain degree), many of them would run in circles if they would actually know what the lyrics of their favorite band mean. :D
