C-bomb or Painkiller??
« on: January 21, 2019, 08:52:18 PM »
Hi Guys

My first post on the forum (woohoo).

Need some help to decide on a new bridge pickup for my mahogany bodied RGDIR7M.

I have a c-bomb in the bridge of my ash bodied Mayones Qatari which sounds great. But, I’m torn between that and a painkiller for my Ibanez. Big influences on my sound are Monuments and Periphery so I would like something that is able to do both sounds well.

What are your experiences of these pups in a 26.6 inch scale mahogany axe with a maple fretboard?

Many thanks for any help/advice/experience your able to share👍🏻

Cause of pure hate towards the Cbomb and friends with similar preference as me which always say the painkiller is the best (OE metal) pickup in the BKP catalogue.

Have you tried both pups? What’s the difference between them?

I really like the A-bomb, in fact, alongside the Mule it's probably one of my favourite BKPs, so in what ways does the C-bomb differ from its alnico cousin?

I have different experiences, I really love the cBomb/coldsweat combo.
My favourite along the Rags & Stockholm.

I have the cBomb on 3 of my 8 Caparison guitars which are kind of dark (mahogany).
The painkillers was the set I least liked.

From the bkp sortiment I have tried: juggernaut 6/7, Painkillers, Ragnaröks, Holydiver, Stockholm, aBomb, Sinner, Trilogy

Shrill highs, I have it in a walnut top guitar and the highs are unbearable, also that thing cannot solo to save its life. Loose bass response... sold it and changed for Cpigs, a lot better.

Dark Sounding Guitar:  Painkiller bridge and a better neck for cleans, or an aftermath set.

Brighter sounding guitar: Rags or Juggs.

**NOTE**  Do NOT overlook the contribution of a guitar bridge in determining the overall sustain, voicing, and overtones of a guitar.

The current version of the RGDIR7M is a nyatoh body (a dense heavy hardwood, seems to be pretty similar to mahogany) with maple/purpleheart neck and maple fretboard; if that's yours, then probably the Painkiller in the bridge, yeah, though I suspect you could go either way. I have PK's this n a basswood guitar, and while I love it, you can tell it was voiced with dark woods in mind. Like I said, I don't think you can go write my here, but if you're looking for a different sound than your other guitar, but still doing djentprog, go PK.
