Anybody playing SGs w Miracle Man or Warpigs
« on: February 19, 2019, 03:04:40 PM »
Looking for SG players that have tried or heard Miracle man or warpigs in an SG. I play in standard, drop D and drop C, and thinking about a high output bridge to replace my 57 classic plus. I’m looking into the ceramic warpig.

That`s question for Agent Orange, as he uses (as far as I remember) Miracle Man is SG.

I have Miracle Man in one SG (E standard tuning) and an alnico Warpig in another (C standard tuning).

SGs are inherently bright, middy guitars and both of them sound more like SGs than they do their respective pickups (I've moved pickups around quite a bit).   The ceramic Warpig might be a slightly better choice for an SG than the alnico version but the Warpig design's high output means that the characteristics of the pickup overpower those of the guitar more than say a mid-output humbucker like an alnico Nailbomb, which I did use in the SG that now has the MM and I really didn't like it, just brought out the SG middiness too much.  The A-Pig was really dark in my Explorer but sounds very different (much brighter) in an SG, and the A-Bomb sounds much better in the Explorer than it did in the SG, less nasal.

The Miracle Man is a lovely pickup, plenty of power but kind of understated by comparison with the Warpig and more versatile.  Absolutely no mid hump problems with this pickup.  I've only used it in EADGBE but out of the 498T, A-Bomb, Cold Sweat, and Miracle Man that have been in this guitar the MM is certainly the best all-rounder, with the CS a close second, the 498T third, and the A-Bomb last.

One thing I would recommend with the MM in an SG is just sticking with the standard wiring harness to start with.  I did try a vintage style '50s harness with 500K pots and it was too bright, so I went back to a standard Gibson 300K harness.
