Brand new PRS Custom 22...not happy with stock pickups
« on: April 18, 2019, 02:22:05 AM »
Just got myself a brand new PRS Custom 22. Incredible guitar. It comes with the PRS 85/15 pickups. I'm not so sure they are for me...

I play anything from pop punk all the way up to metalcore.

Under any type of gain, these pickups just seem so flubby. I especially have an issue with the bridge pickup. Under any gain, the bridge pickup in this guitar reminds me of the neck pickup in any of my other guitars...not crunchy enough. Too round. Maybe I'm exaggerating a little with that analogy, but that is kinda just what comes to mind.

I am looking for a set of pickups that will give me more crunch. More tightness. I'm specifically talking about the bridge pickup here. I do not want ice picky, fizzy, or harsh. This PRS will really only be used for pop punk / hard rock / that type of thing - I don't need pickups for super heavy metal.

Do you guys have any suggestions or have any experience with BKP's that work well in PRS's? I really like pickups that have a nice tight crunch and have clear note definition and are nice and warm. Not too warm, but what I am saying is I don't like ice picky or harsh or fizzy pickups.

Any suggestions are much appreciated. Thank you!

Perhaps a Holy Diver will do. It's has good mids, not too much topend and bass.

Rebel Yells sound incredible in my PRS S2 Singlecut. The low end is tight and really punchy - the exact opposite of flubby. Great 'rock' pickups.
