That old Strat

Firstly hello everyone, i'm new to the forums so i'l let you know a little about myself.

I'm 18 years old, ive been playing guitar for 11 years, i play in an exeter bassed metal band called Sekhmet (hence the name) and am currently studying guitar at the academy of music and sound, so i pretty much bum around and play guitar all day, yeah i know its a tough life  :P

But yes more to the point, i am currently considering changing the nasty stock pick ups in my strat for some that would suit my style of play more, and since mansons pretty much wont let you get SD's in your guitar with out checking out Bare Knuckles i did, and got a War Pig fitted into my Jackson.

After a while of scratching my head, and trying a few different Bare Knuckles out at the London Guitar show (very helpful stall i must say) i've narrowed it down to either The Sinner single coil set, or a Miracle Man in the Bridge and then either 2 single coils or another Humbucker and single coil.

I was wondering if anyone could point out possable flaws in my ideas, give advice on whether its a good idea, what it would sound like, What combinations would go well with a Miracle man, and just advice really.

Oh yeah the its a 10 year old Jap strat and i play mainly metal, although i'm partial to rock, funk and a bit of blues.

Cheers, Mike

Hi, and welcome! The easy way would be to go with a single coil set so you keep your strat pretty much stock. Less hassle and modifying. The guitar will probably hold it's value better too.

Check out Hayden's Uber single coils track in the players section, it's basicly a Sinner Trilogy set.

Were you the guy who was playing the Ibanez with the nailbomb HSH set in, who liked Opeth and Sikth?
Have you checked out the sound clips in the players room? In there you'll find the Nailbomb, Miracle man and Sinner demos. They are the Pickups thatI would suggest you check out.
As long as your guitar has a "swimming pool route" your strat will take any combination of pickups. We can supply them pre-wired to a scratchplate too.

Let us know what you think   PDT_045

Welcome to the forum.

The Miracle Man sits really well with 2 Trilogy single coils for a great high gain set, alternatively if you go for HSH, then a Miracle Man set(B+N) plus a  Trilogy single works equally well.
As Steve pointed out, as long as your Strat has a swimming pool route, the world is your oyster. We do offer extensive prewired pickguards too in SSS, HSS, and HSH formats.

Ahh dunno wheter to stick with single coils so i can ponse around with other styles, or just do what i knows best, stick a humbucker or two in it and shread :P

I'l prolly have to get it routed out like my mate had to on his to get his miracle man to fit, wont know untill i open it up and take a look.

Cheers for your advise, i'l try a get a sound clip once i desided.

Oh and no that wasn't me.

My Sinner is astounding

Thanks for posing a question I have a great chance to answer for my first post on the forum!

I just wired in my new Sinner into a Lite Ash strat, which I bought just after the London Gtr Show and after consulting Tim on the BKP stand.

Tim said it would stand up next to my Miracle Man and Warpig loaded guitars and that I would have to quote "a seriously silly grin"

Well I can whole heartedly agree with that.

For a single coil it can really grind, but also has a bright sound that the other Humbuckers can't give. It has a quality that reminds me of reading the reviews of the Mesa Boogie Stilletto vs the Recto and the way both amps compliment each other. The Sinner will work great alongside another guitarist using humbuckers and will give you a complimentary voice.

The only problem is that when wired with my stock Neck and middle Duncans the strat is no longer humbucking in second position.

Tim warned me this could be the case but it doesn't bother me too much as the bridge is so good now.

My advice - get a whole pre-wired Sinner pickguard and a "silly grin"

BTW I love it - Thanks again Tim. :D

Welcome to the boards and thanks for the feedback on the Sinner-as you've no doubt found out, there's alot of sinner fans in the forum PDT_007

Re:phase and single coils

This can be a problem especially when mixing singles with other manufacturers. We follow a code of stock wind = south polarity and top going/top left wind direction. this is 'reasonably' universal and is 'mainly' what Fender use(and seeing as it's their design I think it's fair to let them call the shots :D )however even they change polarity depending on the range of coils(early Fenders were north up) and SD wind the opposite to everyone else for some reason. This is why it's generally safer to buy single coils in sets if you're unsure of the polarity/wind direction of the other coils on your guitar.

Hmm i think i will most likely stick to singles as it involves less modification, and i like the contrasting white and black on my guitar atm.

One more question, does the Sinner come as a 3 peice set, or as one on its own, if its the latter, what would be a good BKP combination for a middle and a neck pick up, bearing in mind i use the neck for my clean playing, and occasionaly in distortion when i crack out the hendrix (has to be done :p)

Yes, the sinner can be supplied in a calibrated set of 3. We have a choice of Black, white, cream, parchment white, or mint green covers in stock.

Sinner/Trilogy is a really great combo, but Sinner/MothersMilk lets you get cleaner, funkier and more hendrix like. :!:  :P
