I like a decent quilt top and a tasteless 80s style blue bengal or ghost flame finish too. I think it's good to be open minded ;)
As for cheap LP clones, the Dean Evo is pretty tasty, the PRS Tremonti is pretty well thought of (although you'll need to buy an adjustable bridge if you want to play in anything other than A440), if you like a classic style fat neck. The Washburn Idols are pretty good, and if you look around you can still find the WI65 model which was staggeringly good value for money (named US pickups and Buzz Feiten for around £300). Epiphones can be a bit variable, and when you compare the features to similarly priced guitars they are a little pricey, but if you find the right one it could be the start of something beautiful. At the really cheap end of the scale, I've played a Vintage before, and they're actually not bad (I've played guitars for twice that money that weren't really any better to play).

^ +1 on the WI65, i found one for £290 the other day, for the price it's excellent.

If only it didn't have 42mm nut width, grrr... (i prefer wider- 43mm)

Very nice guitar. I like the color and the maple cap. It's screaming for a set of Rebel Yells, I think.

Well, wonder of wonders .... not only did I find out this morning that the guitar shipped the same day I ordered it, but that it shipped FedEx,  and was out for delivery TODAY.

It just arrived in my office. First impression is that it's VERY impressive!! Finish is good, parts are very good, inlay work is suprisingly nice. Acoustically, it sounds brighter than most LPs, probably due to the maple neck. The profile is very comfortable, and the neck finish is great. Frets are hand filed and look good. The neck actually plays GREAT!!

Also, the top is quilted maple, not a veneer or photofinish! Not the most flamed piece of wood, of course, at this price, but I don't like highly figured tops, anyway.

These pics aren't so good, b/c I don't have time for nice ones, but this will give you all the basic idea:

i've heard it's cheaper to buy a korean tokai than ship an agile over here, sambo...

but those are nice pics, ben- I like those blue bursts, where it's lighter in the middle and gets darker towards... you get the idea...

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!! You get a new guitar and don't at least give it a test run!?!!?

That's like finding a hot naked chick in your bed and telling her you'll be back on Monday!

Seriously those Agile guitars look sweet for the money. Congrats!

Just ordered this guitar (Agile AL-2800), should be here in about 3 weeks. Sorting out the pups for it now.

Sooo ... Phil King lost the challenge! I got got a Les Paul clone before he got a Floyd-equipped guitar. (He, however, will probably have 3 Felines before I can even get one)

Aww - C'mon Ben
I'm bringing a few nice guitars for you to look at at the LGS
But glad that we have a fan in Phil :)

Interesting photos - left handed guitar with the piccy reversed to look right handed. (can I claim my anorak prize now?)
