Stormy Monday neck/AVT 100 combo
« on: April 27, 2006, 08:49:48 PM »
The Matamp's still not ready and I was all ready to do a clip, so I did one anyway using the neck SM in my Organic straight into my spare; no effects, tone changes done with the guitar's volume pot, 1 take, 1 mic. And still without any headphones so I was straining to hear the quiet drums - consequently there's a few timing discrepancies. Obviously not my fault   The tone's not fantastic, but the pup certainly helps!

It's the usual mellow clean Stormy Monday thang, and the vol. came out quite low, so you'll probably want to turn it up a bit.

Oh and there's no bass I'm afraid, just drums 'n' the guitar.

I liked the clean bits but the distortion sounded muddy to me.. probably just the amp though.

WITH FULL DISTORTION

If you īre using the NECK pickup for distorted RIFFS, then itīs your fault.
NEVER use the neck pup to make riffs.
Bridge ONLY for riffage. i mean Rhythm stuff.
leads and clean/acoustick parts, can be done with the neck and NECK/BRIDGE together
Q:)
I loved the clean
very beautiful

Bare in mind guys that this was a take-the-piss 'in the style of' thang....people had requested overdriven SM clips, so they got them!

Basically it is a muddy distortion, 'cos that's the tone of virtually all stoner/doom music! I used solely the neck 'cos that's what those bands (gonga, Electric Wizard, Sleep etc) use!

IMO the first jokey clean part sounds pretty bad - thin 'n' spiky - but bare in mind there was no channel switching at all, it's all done with the vol. knob - which to me demonstrates how BKPs really clean up.
The overdrive is big 'n' muddy - 'thick' I think is the polite way of saying it   - but that can be expected I think when you drop a standard set of .11s and use the neck pup, as you rightly said WFD.

The one tone I think's pretty good (not just from a Doom point of view!) is the cleanish bridge section, again by rolling off the vol. knob. Not bad for an AVT IMO!

I will put a proper clip up sometime, maybe this Saturday, with the Matamp if I can get a decent sound from my Organic. Otherwise funk/blues/rock/reggae etc clips will go up sometime on the Matamp site with a Pacifica.

I enjoyed it too, sounds cool!

Guitar tones are all subjective guys! It's not really muddy just different!
