New guitar acquired - BKPs on the way shortly...
« on: April 28, 2006, 11:15:37 AM »
On the subject of excellent Epiphones in another thread I've just bought a cracker!  I've also got a complete set of Gibson spec wiring/pot/jacks/switch and once I get a few quid together I'll be ordering a calibrated set of Riff Raffs  :D

My Limited Edition Epi has a much slimmer neck and smaller heel than the regular Epi SG, Epi SG Custom, Gibson SG Special, Faded Special and the Standard - it feels and sounds much more "SG like" than all of them (which have VERY rounded necks like a 50's Les Paul for some reason).  The closest in spec from the US is the '61 reissue at £1000.  My Epi '65 reissue was £350.

You'd never guess I was Angus Young in an AC/DC tribute band would you?

Very nice
So what neck thickness is around that one? I mean the '61 reissue, is that the only one with a thinner neck?
I have handled/played a couple in the store and did'nt get mojo from the neck (bit fat) and always fancied an SG in the collection.

Was thinking ESP's are pretty good too so I hear.

Anyway, what necks ARE thin? (hoping not just a '61).

Also, not that alot of it is mega hard but, as you are in an AC/DC band. Where do ya get the music? I have looked at tabs on Ultimate and mega and 99% are wrong one way or another. Also, have read varying reports on the tab books. Any pointers?
Thanks,
Nick

Hi Nick.  Only the '61 and the Custom Shop models have the original slim neck.  The Angus Young signature is different again, but closer to a '61 than a Standard.  The Tokai SGs are supposed to be good too, but I haven't played one so I don't know how slim the neck is.

For the music, I learn most of it by ear.  Occasionally I'll get some tab off Ultimate Guitar but most of it I just up by playing along.  I also get a few things from "Malcolm" who's pretty good at learning by ear too.

Thanks bud.

Yeah Angus has a '64 and a '68 he uses mostly I think which is why I wondered.

To say I LOVE AC/DC is abit of an understatement and although Angus may not be a "shredder" I love his tunes. Alot I can take by ear too, but times I check a few things and by golly the Tbas SUCK. I mean BAD LOL.

Have fun, looks like a great axe :)

Although never understood the Bigsby thang, not seen Angus with it for years and years lol

Very cool.  I love SG's, and I love AC/DC even more (mainly Bon Scott era).

Play Kicked In The Teeth for me.  ;)

We only do the Bon Scott stuff.  Our singer is not a fan of Brian Johnson!

AC/DC were pretty much the first band I really got into when I discovered my Dad's Highway To Hell album.  If I have to choose, I'd go with the Bon stuff but for Back In Black alone, Brian Johnson deserves MAJOR credit - it's the rawk bible!!!

Over here (US) we have a cable channel VH1 and VH1 Classic.
It's "Heavy Metal Month" and last night showed some great interview/making of album AC/DC stuff :)
I actually like Johno.
To me two different bands, AC/DC and AC/DC post Bonn. Both very excellent and relevant.
Also read today the boys are ready to record a new album!!!!!!!! YAY
About time, must have got sick of XXX and Barbies huh LOL

Great looking guitar. It should sound awesome with the Riff Raffs. I've heard of your band somewhere? Did you ever play in Holland?
