PRS Singlecut with VHII's ?
« on: August 12, 2020, 10:00:00 PM »
Hey guys,

New member here. Thanks for having me. Have been trauling through posts on here but didn't find an answer to my question. Unless it was hiding from me, or I was just too stupid to see it. Anyways.

I have a 2006 PRS Singlecut that is begging me daily for new pickups. It really is. It talks to me.

Looking at the VHII set. I like a brighter pickup, but it can't be harsh. It needs to be tight, but not thin. And it can't be honky, but it also can't sound scooped. It also has to coil split well, and it has to roll off nicely. As in, gain rolls off quickly, and not get honky.

Wow, I really am a picky SOB huh.

Now, the VHII seems to tick those boxes. But does anyone have any experience with a PRS SC, and this pickup ?

My guitar will thank you. No it really will. It talks.

The VHII set is quite scooped, but should balance well with the guitar
I actually played a PRS singlecut with VHII's and it worked out fine, but sounded too bassy
The guy also tried dimarzio 36th PAF's and they sounded good too, but too honky and still bassy
I'd pick a Riff Raff bridge/mule neck for that guitar

You may have just saved my bacon. Thanks chief !

It's interesting because I put a 36th Anniversary in my Les Paul, and I also found it too honky. I now have a SD Slash pickup in there which is good, but can be a little bright at times.

Thanks so much man.

Good recommendation. I would not rule out a Mule-set too.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

I have a VHII set in an ESP eclipse (like a Les Paul studio copy) and it sounds great and it’s versatile. I’d also recommend considering the Mule and the Rebel Yell.
Currently: Silo, Rebel Yell, Crawler, VHII, Juggernaut, Holy Diver, Impulse, Cold Sweat neck, Impulse neck, Aftermath neck.
Formerly: C-Bomb, Piledriver, Cold Sweat, Mule, all my non-BKPs 😉
