I have a preference (still) fir the sony minidisc format.

The sony (actually Dolby) compression is way better than MP3, and I beleive that the HI-MD format simply allows drag & drop to the player (I think they now support MP3 without transcoding).

I've got a ipod photo 60gig. Which i dropped down the bog when it was a week old!! Anyway it still works on shuffle mode as the screen packed up due to bog. I've got over 4000 tunes on it and it's still not half full. There great!

Could you not have used the warranty? All my friends who've had problems have had theirs replaced/repaired for free...

Not sure if its worth it for you since your not in the states but you might want to try this place.
