Stormy Monday and LP. New clip with amp...
« on: May 04, 2006, 09:02:37 AM »
I recorded this new clip using my one-off class A amp with a single 6V6. I'll be posting full details about the amp a.s.a.p. as now I'm in a bit of a rush.

Amp:

Fender Blackface preamp type with a GE 12AY7 and a Mullard ECC81
Class A power amp with a single Mazda 6V6 Mazda and valve rectified.
Single 15" alnico speaker by Weber ( Jensen Q type )
Mercury Magnetics trannies
All PTP wired....

I'm planning on changing the actual caps ( Sprague Orange Drops ) for Sozos for more mids and warmth.

The sound with humbuckers is very dynamic and if you hit it hard ( as I was doing when I recorded the clip ) the amp shows its angry face.....

Truly unique sound...kind of Fender Deluxe reverb meets MArshall Plexi with some VOX grittyness added in. ;)

Great - nice sounding amp - unusual to have a 15" speaker in a combo this size. Is "Tweedrange"  a posh name for "Middle"?

In a nutshell... yes! although it doesn't just add mids... because of its peculiar circuitry it adds some mids plus some gain and extra "mojo".

That's a great sound. What an amp! What did you use for the echo? It sounded very authentic.

Wow that sounds really nice, good crunch. I'd love to hear that amp with a booster infront of it  :D

hehe, this a picture of my pedal board. As you can see I have a Tubescreamer clone ( T-Rex Alberta) and a Keeley treble booster to squeeze some gain from the T-rex.
I didn't use any of those though to record the clip... it's just pure, simple class A grit.
